AFTER AND OUTSIDE SCHOOL PROGRAMS

Engaging Students and Families in Learning Outside the Classroom

Schools are vital institutions for the development of young people, but they are not the only format in which learning can take place. Through after school and summer programs, students and families can engage in more deliberate, choice-based learning experiences that spark personal connections and inspire new passions.

PIONEER TEENS

Archive for Research in Archetypal Symbolism

A cohort of 11 teens over 10 days deeply explored the function of an archive, symbols in art and history of the past and present, and art making as a form of self-expression. Teen cultivated their research and artistic skills through analog and digital research, trips to cultural institutions, experimental workshops, conversations, and presentations at a culminating convocation.

CULTURAL AFTER SCHOOL ADVENTURES (CASA)

Staten Island Museum and Marquis Studios

Through 5 different after school programs in partnership with CASA, K-5 students in Staten Island and Brooklyn explored topics in history, art, and science and their intersections in creative ways through scaffolded learning over the course of 4-9 months.

FAMILY PROGRAMS

Rubin Museum of Art, Staten Island Museum, Marquis Studios, American Museum of Natural History

Intergenerational learning engages young people and adults in ways that appeal to each audience independently and together. From leading one-off 15 person tours to engaging with over 40,000 visitors in 2 years in a public play space, I have worked to provide children and caregivers the space and opportunity to learn from each other and practice collaboration and communication.
